Dental inlays and onlays are a medium between dental crowns and fillings. An inlay rests within the bumps (or cusps) on the tooth chewing surface. A dental onlay can cover several cusps, and are larger than inlays.
Inlays and Onlays are one of our general dentistry treatments. They are mainly made of composite resin or porcelain, but gold is also used. These materials are bonded into place for a long-lasting repair. Composite resin and porcelain inlays and onlays, can be colour-matched to existing teeth for a natural look. This makes the resin and porcelain inlays and onlays a popular option for those replacing silver amalgam fillings.
The procedure for making inlays and onlays is very similar to that of a crown.
