Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth and multiple missing teeth that have been lost.

Not only do they restore your ability to chew, bite and speak, they can give you the confidence to smile again. Replacing missing teeth as soon as possible is greatly in the interests of your oral health, preventing and addressing problems such as gum shrinkage and bone loss.

Replacing back teeth with dental implants

Any tooth that becomes lost should usually be replaced as soon as possible, though replacing back teeth are particularly important. Your molars do most of your chewing and biting work and when they’re absent, this becomes the responsibility of single-rooted teeth located closer to the front of your mouth, which are not capable of breaking down food and supporting strong forces in the long term. Replacing larger teeth like molars as soon as possible is a viable investment into the health of your other teeth, which will not suffer from being overworked in the absence of one or more molars.

FAQs

1. What is an implant?

Dental implants are titanium fixtures that are surgically placed into your jawbone, and act as the foundation for a bespoke replacement tooth, such as a fixed bridge, crown or set of dentures. During your initial consultation with us, your dentist will examine your smile to identify if you have sufficient bone to support implants, and advise on whether single implants, or multiple implants treatment with a bridge or dentures, is the best course of action.

  • Single missing teeth –Individual single implants are considered to be the most effective fixed way of replacing missing teeth and deliver a natural result, as the restoration is created to match the aesthetics of your smile. Single implants in select cases do not require you to be left with a gap in your smile during any stage of treatment.
  • Multiple missing teeth –Should you need to replace multiple missing teeth, you have the option of replacing these with individual implants, or by connecting two or more implants together. The latter technique can reduce overall treatment fees where we need to replace several teeth. You can learn more about replacing multiple missing teeth with treatments such as implant-retained dentures and teeth in a day, by clicking on the respective links.
